In the trucking industry, it seems that there is always something for people to complain about. Hardworking people struggle to get things to other hardworking people on time, but they accumulate a lot of blame.
One of the things that truckers are being blamed for recently is high pollution. Unfortunately, some of this is true. Trucks do cause a lot of pollution, and this is particularly bad in places like California where the pollution levels are already very high.
Air quality has been improved lately by a lot of regulations that have been made, but there are still problems. Forty percent of the smog and pollution that is found in the air in California comes from buses and diesel trucks. These pollutants are involved in cancer, breathing problems, heart attacks, and all kinds of other things that could be avoided or reduced. If dirty diesel trucks would be cleaned up and would be either replaced or fitted with filters that reduce pollution, many lives could be saved each year and everyone could breathe easier.
