The year was 1959 and the trucking industry was booming. Companies across North America were begging for drivers and working their staff ragged. Enter independent Bill Weatherstone and his parter Bill G. Bill G. had just purchased a new tractor and was itching for miles in order to make a quick payment. At the time of the incident the two were making several trips from Alberta to Ontario Canada.
In the early hours on a Sunday morning, and with his partner sleeping in the back, Bill W. found himself on a desolate road in northern Minnesota desperately searching for a phone to check in with his girlfriend. As the miles ticked away Bill noticed an abandoned truck stop in the distance. As he grew closer he was astounded and very much relieved to see a phone booth in one corner of the parking area.
After his conversation Bill jumped in his truck and high tailed it down the road. After 20 minutes or so Bill noticed a pair of headlights rapidly approaching him from the rear, as the lights grew nearer they began to flash red and blue. Bill pulled his truck over wondering what the problem could possibly be. The officer approached the truck demanding to know where Bills partner was. To which his reply was he is sleeping in the bunk. The trooper demanded that Bill wake his partner, as he tried to comply he was astonished to find the bunk empty!
What had happened, as Bill was on the phone his partner woke and needed to relieve himself. He donned his boots and went for a stroll to do his business. At the same time Bill had ended his phone call and jumped in the truck, sped away, and left his partner on the side of the road clad in only boxers and boots.
