2 men plead guilty to stealing the  painting “Children With A Cart”by Francisco de Goya while it was in transit from Ohio to a museum in New York

Steven Lee Olson, 49 and his accomplice 27 year old Roman Szurko plead guilty last December to stealing the piece reportedly insured for over $1 million.

Olson was sentenced to 5 years in prison, and Szurko received a 1 year sentence.  The US attorney’s office offered no explanation except that the judge considred prior criminal history, and other factors in his evaluation before sentencing.

The painting was being lent to New York’s Guggenheim museum from the Toldedo Museum of Art in Toledo, Ohio.

The two men were caught when trying to claim a 50,000 reward offered by the Toledo museum stating they had found the painting in Olson’s basement.
