Moose Over Please

big mooseAn urban legend told by many wilderness truckers will start out with a lonely truck on an endless Canadian road. Miles tick by and CB traffic is quiet, the trucker rounds a curve an all of a sudden a giant Moose appears on the horizon standing in the middle of the road.

The trucker slows down, comes to a crawl. He creeps up to the buck and is in awe, for even sitting in his cab the buck is still able to look him squarely in the eye. Needing to continue forward the the trucker inches closer in hopes of scaring the buck. The trucker gets close enough to touch the buck with the front of his truck. When touched the buck steps back. The trucker then inches forward again and the buck steps back. In annoyance the trucker pulls the cord and lets a long blast from his air horn.

Like a flash the buck jumps back then charges his truck driving its antlers through the grill. As pieces go flying the buck jumps back, another jolt and he’s on the attack. The driver mashes the gears and as the truck drives by the buck continues to attack charging into the mist.

Wildlife experts say that moose are very territorial and an adult moose attack call sounds much like the air horn on a truck. So a word to the wise to the tall tale seekers this myth is confirmed and its also best not to blow your horn.
