J.B. Hunt Transport Service Chosen to for NASDAQ 100

The NASDAQ 100 is a group of 100 non-financial companies that make up the exchange. Every year the index is ranked again and companies can change. For 2008 there were eleven new companies chosen, and J. B. Hunt was one of them.

The reason that the stocks are changed and re-ranked each year has to do with the fact that they are designed to provide investors with measures of the world’s largest and most important growth funds. The shares of J. B. Hunt closed down the following Monday by a few cents, but that’s largely because of the struggling economy overall.

The fact that the company was named to the NASDAQ 100 is a triumph for the company and for transportation companies everywhere. It shows that there are many of these kinds of companies that can be very successful and that can grow into national and international businesses, which is more than smaller trucking and transportation companies probably expected to be able to do. Other transportation companies can now strive for the recognition that J. B. Hunt is currently enjoying.
