Diesel Fuel Prices Hit New Record High (Again)

Diesel hits record high.

Diesel fuel is averaging a 3.7 cents per gallon, weekly increase.  The average price of a gallon of diesel in the United States according to the Department of energy is now $4.764

The central Atlantic region has the highest average prices:  $4.912 per gallon. The West Coast is close behind with The lowest prices are in theMidwest where the average is $4.698.

Crude oil was down sharply Tuesday as fear over a troubled economy drove prices downward to close at 138.74 down $6.44 from Monday’s numbers. However, crude oil is still trading at nearly twice the price from last year.

In a related story, George W. Bush retracted an executive order that banned offshore drilling in 1981.  He urged Congress to approve the reversal.  Most experts agree that offshore drilling would take years to foster an impact on current prices.
