There has been a lot of copper theft, lately! Why? Copper is now worth big bucks and many people feel it is worth the price of theft – so much so that individuals are stealing copper from all sorts of places: schools, construction sites and switching stations for power companies. They are striping the wires and selling it any way they can, trying to make extra money.
Most of the copper being stolen and resold is to support drug habits; but some theft of copper is feed families caught in an unstable economy.
In Tennessee, there was a large copper theft at a trucking lot in Petersburg. But, copper wasn’t all they took. The thieves also made off with a semi-truck and a flatbed trailer! Hmmm? It would seem to be difficult to hide these things from the police, given their size. But, so far no one has located them: the copper, the semi, the flatbed or the thieves.
The case is so large that both state and federal agents are joining together to identify the thieves who committed the crime. Likely, the people responsible will eventually be caught and the merchandise and vehicles recovered.
