Doug Pelmear is an engineer from Ohio with a valuable secret under the hood of his 1987 Ford Mustang. This 400 horsepower muscle car does 0-60 in under 3 seconds and a top speed of about 180 MPH. Even more amazing, the car gets 110 MPG.The public hasn’t been allowed to peek under the hood just yet. Pelmear is waiting for a few patents to come in before releasing details of this green engineering miracle.
There has been independent verification according to OzarksFirst. The claims have been verified by Rocket Ventures in Toledo, Ohio.
Pelmear is entering his car in the Progressive Automotive X Prize competition. He could win the $10 million, but the real potential is in using the technology in the large cars and SUV’s that Americans crave. Soon we all may be thanking Pelmear for his remarkable engineering feat.

That engineer has been quoted saying his technology is just a start. With R&D it could get pushed to 500 MPG.

Of course there will be skeptics. I for one believe that there must be several ways around the oil companies grip that they have on us. Doug and his partner(s) had better make many copies that duplicate themselves because when big oil comes calling to try and shut er…. buy him out the rest of us will have a chance with the plans. They don’t play fair as I’m sure by now everyone who drives will agree. Don’t give in to the bastards … sell it to the masses and you will be rich beyond your wildest dreams.

Yet another ‘environmental miracle’, just like all the others. Hoax until it’s actually found in real cars and whatnot.
Since ‘findings’ like these have a tendency to just ‘magically’ disappear, or people fail to get the same results, etc, I and everyone else is very sceptical about such comments.
Besides, there’s already a car that can get more than a thousand miles per gallon. Not that it’s an actually practical or fast car, but it’s there. And that’s one that’s actually been confirmed.

The question is not whether or not he actually gets 110MPG: I can get ~100MPG in my old Lumina by driving at about 35MPH and coasting with my engine off as much as possible.
The question is does it get 110MPG while he’s doing 60MPH?

To get that kind of mileage with that kind of power would require an incredible amount of efficiency in extracting the energy from the gasoline. The kind of efficiency that would only come from technology developed by an entire team of scientists with virtually unlimited funding working for years on an entirely new engine design.

From what I read Pelmear has figured out how to squeeze 38% efficiency from the motor — as opposed to the normal 13%.
You skeptics are a cynical bunch. I’m willing to believe this is possible. In fact, I might just order an H2 and keep it parked until I can stick one of these motors in it!

I had a 1985 honda civic CRX that got 50 miles per gallon, and you are telling me that one of the closes things to that 23 YEARS later is a toyota prius? come on people. with all the technological advances we have made since then, you would think we could make a stock F150 that got at least 35 MPG. Hooray for you Doug.

my guess is he is using something similar to Smokey Yunick’s hot vapor engine. He got similar increases in HP and MPG on a Fiero. The process involves heating the air and fuel mixture a lot before it enters the combustion chamber. This creates a much better burn. Also the eat required to warm the intake charge can be taken from the engine, reducing the burden on the cooling system.
Only problem with this is so far no one has gotten it to work and dead men tend to be a bit less than help full. Also it is the equivalent to having a fuel air bomb sitting on to of your engine.

Well according to the X Prize Race rules the vehicles will be assessed for “safety, cost, features and business plans to ensure that only production-capable, consumer-friendly cars compete”. I can understand a car having 110mpg and being able to go very fast but it has to be something thats affordable, safe, and practical. Hope fully we see your car in 2009 instead of the 2010 race cause I’d really like to see whats under that hood.

To you skeptics, don’t you think the reason we never see these claims of incredible efficiency come to the public is because the oil companies buy the patents or rights and destroy/hide them from the public?
I know of at least one patent for a carburetor capable of 40MPG back in the day that suffered the same fate, commendable considering the 9MPG muscle cars were getting at the time.

If people looked at all the super mileage things that worked they’d realize it’s technology people don’t really want. For example, the 40mpg mentioned above actually worked, and here’s how. In the car you had a lever you’d pull that would shut off the main carburetor on the engine and open a smaller one off a motorcycle. This would dramatically cut engine power and thus save fuel, the problem is the moment you need to climb a hill or pass another vehicle you had to switch back over to the large carb.
Hot Vapor engine from Smokey Unick, well that worked great with 100 Octane fuel, too bad warmer temps and any lower fuel quality would result in engine destroying detonation.

Man… I drive a LIFTED 1988 For Bronco, With 35″ off road tires and a 302. I love my truck and would give anything to have/test whatever it is he has under that hood. Im currently lucky to get 7 Mpg. And I filled my tank today for 90$ … Which is a quarter of my paycheck…

Well, time will tell us all won’t it? The only thing I really have an issue believing is the reason for the delay in showing everyone the system. Since the US Patent office provides full protection of the claim as if the patent were already awarded while it is pending in exchange for full disclosure.
