Trucking Tired

In the early '70s long before log books, drivers would run as hard as they could to make the most of the short amount of time. On an early Wednesday morning a driver named Ed was running himself ragged to return home for another load. He finally decided to call it a day and pulled into a rest area overlooking the Saint John River. He noticed a camper alone in the lot and so he crept in not wanting to disturb its occupants. He shut down his engine, turned off his lights, and hopped in the bunk for some much needed R&R.

The next morning he awoke to the delicious smell of breakfast. When he climbed out of the cab an older couple called to him and asked if he would like to join them for breakfast. Not being one to turn down such an offer Ed happily sat down and was presented with his meal. As they ate the driver talked with the couple and learned that the man was a retired driver himself. Eventually the old man noted to the driver that he must have been tired the night before. When Ed said that he sure had been the man noted that despite his best attempts to not disturb them they could hear Eds snoring all through the night.
