Masslogics Redefines Trucking Software

For many years now, there have been few software choices for trucking companies.  At one end of the spectrum there are programs designed to run on a single computer, usually costing around $1500 or less.  These systems provide basic “fill-in-the-blank” style data capture, but offer little to no real business intelligence.  At the other end there are server-class systems, which require server hardware to operate.  As one may expect, these server systems are more robust than the entry level systems.  Accordingly, their price is substantially higher, starting around $15,000, and going up to $100,000 or more.  And these prices don’t include the server hardware.

Masslogics is here to change this.  Masslogics offers trucking software with a robust set of features, powerful business intelligence, but without the high server cost or large up-front investment.  How?  Through the power of the web.  We manage the servers, so the user doesn’t have to.  In fact, our servers are far more powerful than anything you would consider purchasing.  And yes, we have servers, plural.  Multiple machines running the same system – in different locations (states).  This way, your data is always backed up and accessible.

Myth: Web Software is Entry Level and Not Secure

As with any new technology, there is always a period of development where the strengths are discovered and maximized, and the weaknesses are minimized.  During the 90′s, the web was new.  Connection speeds were modest, and the early uses were for entertainment and  information sharing.  Eventually, as the connection speeds improved, it was discovered that business class software could be developed for it.  Over the past 10 years, major systems have been built using web technology, and as more companies move their software to the web, the costs for developing that software continues to decrease.  Just as PCs have become more powerful and less expensive over time, web-based trucking software continues to get better, more secure, and more affordable.

What are the Advantages?

Web technology offers many advantages over server-class software.  Not only in price, but in functionality as well.  The web is a standardized platform.  If a new technology is made for the web, then it can be easily integrated with anything else that is also made for the web.  GPS and mapping technology, cell phones, apps, tablet PCs, and more technologies to come are all things that can be integrated or used with web-based software.  While server systems can make use of these technologies, the development happens slower and at a much higher cost, which translates into a higher cost to the user.  That’s why it is important to start with a trucking software designed specifically for the web, and not one that was developed as a server system, and then converted to the web.

What Does This Mean for You?

Do your homework.  Look at the demos and research the technology.  Ask plenty of questions.  Talk to existing users, and get their feedback.  Shopping for trucking software is a daunting task.  But no matter how hard it may seem, or how long it takes to get the answers you need, the process pales in comparison to the cost of purchasing the wrong system.  Buying the wrong trucking software can mean 1) spending too much money, 2) ADDING inefficiencies instead of fixing them, or worst yet 3) getting something so difficult to use that your staff doesn’t use it at all.  Ever heard the saying, “The most expensive suite you buy is the one you don’t wear?”  That statement is especially true when purchasing trucking software.  That’s why our process is laid back and helpful.  We want to answer your questions, so give us a call.
