How much truckers charge and for what, is something that is being looked at a little more closely recently. Right now, these rates are not legislated or mandated, and there is increasing pressure to do these sorts of things. There is a fear that not regulating these rates will allow them to get out of control, which could drive out the smaller companies.
There is a link, though, between road safety and how much a person gets paid as a trucker. People who are underpaid are not going to be as happy with their jobs and most of them are not going to do those jobs as well as they would, if they were more satisfied.
That being said, mandating rates could mean that some truckers wouldn’t be making as much money. Some of them could go out of business and others could get careless and start cutting corners. That can endanger not only the truckers but millions of other people on the road as well.
