Most of the truckers out there can get the word out to people about important highway issues. They are essentially rolling billboards.
With that in mind, they are being used to support the ‘move over’ law. This is a law that says that people must move over to accommodate emergency vehicles on the side of the highway. It was enacted to try to keep officers and ambulance workers from being struck by vehicles driving by. There has been too much of that, and when it comes to protecting their own, these people are very serious.
Since the truckers support that law so much, they are being used as advertisements for the law. It’s a great way to make sure that people see the information, because they may not have heard about the law or realize just how serious and important it is.
Putting information on billboards helps, but when the billboard is huge and driving down the highway, it’s much more prominent and more people generally see it and take notice. It could help to save lives.

I support the law and I think it;s there for a good reason. I have been driving for 12 years and have never been harrassed by a trooper or a police officer. I have been weighed, had my logs, permits and certificates checked, but aside from that, I do my best not to speed or commit other violations. I own flatbed and step-deck trailers, so I would have to display the “Move Over” placard somewhere on my cab.

Yes, we support that law and all other laws as well. Sure would be nice if law enforcement would return the favor and stop harasing truckers the way they do. After all, we’re just trying to make a living out there. Sure, there are still too many “Jethro’s” out there and they need to be cleaned up, but far too many of us are serious business owners that are treated like 3rd class citizens by most Highway Patrol officers.
