There are a lot of car commercials being seen today, and it’s becoming pretty clear by the closing of so many cars lots all across the country and the possible impending bankruptcies of the big three automakers that there are serious problems. Truck sales, however, are also down – and they aren’t talked about as much.
Sales of big trucks were down over twelve percent in November, and they don’t look like they’ll be faring any better in the last month of the year. It appears that 2008 will be even worse that 2001, when truck sales were nearly stagnant. While the number of trucks sold in November is actually slightly higher than for the same month in 2007, it can be seen that this isn’t really that encouraging.
Compared to 2006, the number of trucks that were sold in 2008 is down more than fifty percent. That’s not only upsetting for the truck makers, but also for the people who sell the trucks, those who work on them, and those who need jobs driving them.
