Truck Production Halted

Most people in the US only think of their country when it comes to a slumping economy, but it’s rapidly becoming a global problem.

Swedish truck-maker Scania said that they are shutting down their truck production for a month because their orders have dropped off so sharply. That will affect 9,000 staff workers and five plants, but will only be for a month, so the workers will not lose their jobs. The plants will shut down on December 19th and re-open on January 19th. Sweden is home to three of the plants that are shutting down and France has the other two. The company is trying to keep from building up any more stock, because orders over the past nine months have been dropping and are currently down about 50%.

Rather than close plants and put people out of jobs on a more permanent basis, closing the plants for one month will help the company avoid a build-up of stock and allow people to keep their jobs when the plants re-open in mid-January.
