As one of the more progressive states, California is often interested in making changes and enacting laws that affect individuals coming in and out of the state, as well. Now it looks as though that same state is going to be interested in working to stop global warming by changing the emission rules for truckers and making them stricter.

These rules would apply to truckers that were registered in California, but also to truckers who were coming into the state. There would be efficiency technology that could be purchased ‘off the shelf’ and that would be required, but truckers would also have to install filters or upgrade their engines so that they didn’t put as much smog into the air and so that particulate matter emissions were reduced.

All of this costs money, but if the requirements are enacted, truckers who want to do business in California won’t really have much of a choice. The idea is that these changes would also help efficiency, and that means that they would pay for themselves in time, keeping some of the burden off the truckers’ wallets.
