Congress does not seem to happy with the fact that the Bush administration, quite sneakily, announced that it was extending the test project that gives Mexican trucks access to U.S. highways.

The committee that approved this bill feel that the program deserves more time and that it has been a successful program to date. They made this announcement on the first day of Congress’ summer recess.

According to the chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, this will be addressed clearly and quickly when Congress reconvenes in September.

Truckers in the United States are not happy with the Mexican drivers that will work for less money that are costing them their jobs. Add in the current costs of fuel and the fact that Mexican drivers and equipment are not held to the same high safety standards that the United States drivers are held to and the drivers here in the states are feeling the squeeze trying to keep their businesses running.
