police.jpgMembers of the California Air Resources Board are out on the road enforcing the firm’s anti-idling program, a new regulation that limits idling time to around five minutes. Along with local air quality officials, the CARB staff will enforce these regulations throughout the state by monitoring commercial diesel vehicles, keeping an out eye for on-and-off road models.

The regulations are quite strict, costing first-time offenders a minimum fine of $300. Subsequent violations could be anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000.

Regulations for sleeper berth trucks have been in effect since last January while the idling limitations have applied to commercial diesel vehicles for years. Off-road diesel vehicles were included into the regulations this past June.

CARB did however, offer a grace period to give managers and drivers enough time to conform to the new requirements. Due to the nature of these operations, enforcement officials are required to first contact the operator and supervisor to determine exactly why the vehicle was idling too long before handing out the fine. If no suitable reason is given, a citation will then be issued to whom ever owns, rents or leases the vehicle.
